Ebays’ feedback system is at the heart of the way that the site works.  Without it there would be absolutely no way of knowing who you could trust and who you should avoid which is why it is crucial that buyers leave honest feedback for sellers that they’ve dealt with.

This was highlighted for me recently when a seller suggested that I rate them highly to avoid them losing their Top-Rated Seller status rather than rating them on their service.

“C’mon Phil, all misspelled items on eBay are fakes aren’t they ?”  That’s how the email from Tom in Kentucky started.  This guy clearly didn’t believe that eBay sellers genuinely misspelled words, sometimes CRUCIAL words in their listings.  Instead he (wrongly) believed that they were selling fake items with the names deliberately but subtly misspelled to fool innocent buyers.

But is he right ?

Before I announce the winners and also an extra special prize that was created to reward the person who made the most entries I’d just like to apologise for the delay in announcing the winners of our eBay misspelling competition.

We’ve had so many entries that it’s taken me many days to work through all of them.  I’ve not been helped by the unseasonally bad weather that we’ve had here in the United Kingdom since before Christmas with another 5″ of snow falling last night which has resulted in school closures again.  As I work from home running a number of websites (Missing-Auctions.com, Auction-Follow.comSingle-Bid-Auctions.com and theVoucherStore.co.uk among others) having my son around during the day means that I have to drastically reduce the amount of time I spend working on my sites.

However, enough of the excuses, let’s move on to look at the winners.  But before I announce them, here are MY favourite misspelled eBay items out of the 250+ that YOU found.  I’ve linked to each of the items so that you can see just how bad the spellings are !

Earlier today we rolled out a new version of Missing-Auctions.com.  If you’re thinking that it looks exactly the same as the old version then you’re right !  But behind the scenes the engine that searches eBay for misspelled words has been completely rewritten and now finds more misspelled eBay items than ever before.

And to celebrate this fact, we’re holding a competition between now and December 31st with $100 in prizes.

To stand a chance of winning all you need to do is to use Missing-Auctions.com to find the best misspelled eBay auction you can.  Post your entries as a comment on this post with the item number (it’s in the ‘Other item info’ box), the auction title and the words that are misspelled.  An example is shown below.

Entries close at midnight on 31st December when we’ll pick three winners.  The best misspelled eBay auction will win a $50 eBay Gift Certificate, with $30 and $20 going to second and third places.  The winners will be announced on the Missing-Auctions.com blog and will also be contacted by email.

One of the least exploited ways of making money on eBay is to buy misspelled eBay items with the intention of relisting them so that they sell for a higher price.
