Before I announce the winners and also an extra special prize that was created to reward the person who made the most entries I’d just like to apologise for the delay in announcing the winners of our eBay misspelling competition.
We’ve had so many entries that it’s taken me many days to work through all of them. I’ve not been helped by the unseasonally bad weather that we’ve had here in the United Kingdom since before Christmas with another 5″ of snow falling last night which has resulted in school closures again. As I work from home running a number of websites (Missing-Auctions.com, Auction-Follow.com, Single-Bid-Auctions.com and theVoucherStore.co.uk among others) having my son around during the day means that I have to drastically reduce the amount of time I spend working on my sites.
However, enough of the excuses, let’s move on to look at the winners. But before I announce them, here are MY favourite misspelled eBay items out of the 250+ that YOU found. I’ve linked to each of the items so that you can see just how bad the spellings are !
Not only did they manage to misspell the word candle in the title but they also misspelled crystal. They went to a lot of effort to take good clear pictures of the items that they are selling but failed to check the basics. And the description doesn’t make a lot of sense either !
Merceded Benz S class (06-07) Fabulous Body kit
Now if I was going to sell something worth $6,090 I’d make sure that I’d spelled it right. Wouldn’t you ?
VOLKWAGEN GOLF 2.0 GLE – 2000 MODEL
And continuing in the same vein . . . I wonder if this Volkswagen Golf sold for the desired AU$12,000 ?
AutheVintage Lv Louis Vutton Speedy hand bag .
OK, so you might think that the seller was pushed for space in the title and had to abbreviate the word Authentic to Authe. But if that’s the case then what’s with the space and full-stop ? Oh, and they also misspelled Vuitton!
SILVER PERKALATING COFFE MAKER-EXCELENT CONDITION
Perkalating ? Excelent ? This seller was obviously buzzing on caffiene when they listed this item.
Bannana Republic Metalliac Lightweight Jacket/Blazer
When I saw the entry, and saw that they’d misspelled metallic AND banana I must admit I did wonder what they were selling. Or failed to sell. Because no one searching for Banana Republic could find this item.
CCTV 4CH real time DVR digtal dideo recorder boon
Er, digtal dideo I can understand but boon ? What’s a boon ? The listing shows that they have 5 available and using Auction-Follow.com to see how many they’ve sold I can report that it’s precisely none. Not surprising really !
So, those are my favourites but which ones have won ?
I originally intended to give three prizes – a $50 eBay gift certificate for the best misspelling with prizes of $40 and $25 for the runners up but seeing just how hard some people worked to find I decided to create another prize of $10 for the person that submitted the most entries.
So, in reverse order . . . in third place we have the AutheVintage Lv Louis Vutton Speedy hand bag . found by Suzi which wins a $25 eBay gift certificate. In second place we have the vase candel cristal found by Jayson which wins a $40 eBay gift certificate and the winning entry is the CCTV 4CH real time DVR digtal dideo recorder boon found by Jan which wins the $50 eBay gift certificate.
And finally, although none of entries made by Moshe won, the sheer time spent looking for misspelled eBay items means that Moshe wins the Award for Determination which is a $10 eBay gift certificate.
Congratulations to you all ! We’ll run another competition soon so keep your eyes peeled !

It was a really tough job choosing between the various entries but, rest assured, we’ll be running a similar competition again in the future. Not sure when yet but maybe around Easter time.

Wow!! Thank you, Phil!! This was a fun competition. Being an English teacher I especially enjoyed hunting for those misprints/misspelling.
Jan
@moshe: I did drop you an email so I’ll send you the voucher via email later today.
@Jan: I’m glad you enjoyed it and I can see why. Surely you must be appalled at the standard of some of the spelling ? Your voucher will be on the way later today as well, also via email.
i didnt get it which email address did you sent it to
thanks phil!
thanks phil!!
That’s some funny stuff. Some of the best comedy comes from real life events. I’ve seen some amazing product descriptions on eBay. That should be the next contest.
